Edgewater Park, NJ.-- Phyllis E. Stern, a native of Trenton died on Friday June 18,2021 at home. She was a graduate of Jr.#3, Trenton High School and Trenton State College. Phyllis was a teacher of mathematics and music appreciation at Hopkins Middle School in Burlington Twp for over 26 years. During her teaching career, she won many awards for her work and was a featured speaker at numerous local, state and national mathematics conferences.
Upon retiring in 1998 , she became " The Math Lady" at the Burlington County Library. As a volunteer, she completed several thousand hours of work helping children and adults in furthering their math skills. In 2002 ,Miss Stern was given the Burlington County Volunteer of the Year Award.
Phyllis was the daughter of the late Lillian and Maxwell Stern. She was the granddaughter of the late Rose and Samuel Tankle, and the late Celia and Morris Stern. She is survived by several relatives and friends. Miss Stern was an active member of Ahavath Israel Congregation serving as Financial Secretary ,Bingo Chairperson, and piano accompanist for holiday programs.
Graveside Funeral services will be held Tuesday 11:00am at the Brothers of Israel Cemetery, Cedar Lane, Hamilton,NJ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
